Sketchbook
Objective: For students to learn additional art skills and develop their creativity.
* All projects have an instruction sheet with detailed directions. On the back, are examples of student work. This sets the expectation of the quality I would like to see.
* These are CFA's and should take at least 20 minutes to complete. Quality and effort are always visible.
Week 1 - All students will complete a value scale through a variety of techniques. Please complete this assignment with a REGULAR WOOD PENCIL, not mechanical.
Week 2 - Students will choose between two different assignments
- Skin Patterns - draw any dinosaur and create skin patterns on it using patterns of current animals. Example: stripes, scales, spots, fur, feathers, etc.
- Texture - replicate the patterns you see: fur, cactus, scales, brick, burlap
Week 3 - Students will choose between two different assignments
- Pencil Project - draw 3 images OR a theme. Include details: eraser, metal crimp, sharpened point.
- Font Style - Draw two different font styles and include the label. Use guidelines, pay attention to thickness of letters, slant of letters, etc.
Week 4 - Students will choose between two different assignments
- Hand Project - Trace hand and then turn it into anything you wish. The more detail the better.
- Song Title Project - Pick an appropriate song title to illustrate. The more detail the better. Please include artist and title.
General Requirements:
1. All drawings must be school appropriate.
2. All drawings must be done in pencil. Please, no color. No colored pencils, crayons, etc.
3. Do NOT turn in sketches on blue-lined notebook paper, use the paper provided.
4. Please, do NOT scribble in value. It only takes away from your artwork.
5. Draw one of the two topics for the week.
6.. Do NOT trace or have someone else draw it for you. THIS IS CHEATING.
- if any of it is traced, there will be an automatic deduction
- if anyone else draws it for you it will be an automatic failing grade
7. Create your “own” drawing. If you copy from the original sheet, you will receive less points. But you will still receive points for completion and replication.
8. Clean up: fingerprints, smudges, smears, extra lines.
9. IF you are absent on the due date, your Sketchbook is due when you return to class.
10. IF you are going to be absent, turn it in beforehand!
11. You have 3 days to complete the assignment, don’t wait until the last minute, it’ll only hurt your grade.
What to turn in:
1. Whole Sketchbook folder
2. Drawing
3. Grade sheet
4. Original color copy
5. Keep ALL drawings in Sketchbook folder. These will be used to see individual improvement.
*If all items not turned in, – 1 point BARK, not prepared for class
